Painting the French Ambiance

As you know, I am lucky enough to live in France, in Brittany in the far west of the country. So here is a little painting which reflects the mood or ambiance of France, plus some whimsical touches which reflect how I would like to see the country looking at its best! Capture the mood of France and paint this little sketch of a row of typical French shops. Add your own whimsical touches like I did, by putting in animals, people and you could add special features like bikes and scooters – the sky’s the limit! Keep the painting free and easy by painting the main parts first, once you’ve sketched the outlines, and then finish off with details using brush pens and a tombow calligraphy pen. Such fun!

Materials

My paper for this little drawing was a smooth sketching paper rather than the coarse texture of regular cold press watercolor paper. I can suggest you try this sketchbook available on amazon, together with the Tombow black Brush Pen and the Poetique watercolor brush pens which I used.
