Take a stroll through a summer garden with me to meet our musical fairy and her friends! In this tutorial I first show you my full drawing and composition process, as I create this design of fairy, frog and dragonflies, bees and a ladybird adding colour and character. Then in stage two we paint the flowers and insects in either one, two or three layers. And finally we add lines in ink to create a nostalgic illustration effect. First we prepare a textured background with watercolour, salt and cling film. Then we do a simple pen and ink sketch using tracings to decide on the composition. Finally, the hedgehog and dragonfly are painted in watercolour with added details of ink and black watercolour pencil.
