Painting without a plan has something in common with bungee jumping. Although you know it probably won’t hurt and could be exciting, you’re still pretty nervous about stepping off the edge and letting gravity do its work.
There are days when I know exactly what I’m going to paint. Tomorrow for example I know I’m going to paint some lavender and when I sit down to paint that’s what I’ll do.
But today, as I wave goodbye to the last of my painter’s block, I’m confronted with a bit of hesitation. Can I commit to painting a specific subject before I even pick up a brush?
Well, says my art brain, why should you? Let’s just start and see what happens. I think there’s a name for this process these days. I think they call it “Intuitive Art.”
