Loose Watercolor Sunflowers

Today and for any skill level, let’s capture the essence of sunflowers with their bright yellow petals and captivating shapes in this easy loose, intuitive calligraphy style with watercolor bringing them alive. Plus a new way to paint a background that will inspire you to experiment and play with your colors in creative ways. So let’s relax and get started!

I expect most of you have a nice big set of some kind of watercolor brushpen, but if you haven’t I do recommend the Poetique ones. Not expensive but very good color range and nice and intense, in fact they approximate very well to watercolor paint and that’s why they are so good to have. I use them to create color sketches before I start working with paint. It’s a technique I haven’t been using for very long, just a couple of years, and I do recommend it. In fact, since we’re on the subject, I want to suggest that if you feel stuck in any way before you start to paint, begin with a color sketch of what you have in mind. Don’t fuss about details, just get the essence on paper. You will almost certainly finish up being super excited about your project!
