Hi Insiders!

June has been an interesting month for us so far. We've installed ceiling blinds in the studio, which are helping the recording and editing process by filtering the light. The sheep were shorn last week, and we filmed the whole process from the shearer's point of view. That video will be on @fromthegarden soon, for those of you who are interested in experiencing sheep shearing by a true pro. Our shower door exploded, our ride-on mower imploded, our neighbours moved out, and we're still using our heating on the longest day of the year!

New on Etsy

I've also been busily painting landscapes, in preparation for the subscription box we're launching with Craftamo later this year (more on that soon!) and I've just listed four of them for sale on Etsy. Click the images to see the listings:

July is World Watercolor Month

The ninth annual World Watercolor Month starts next week, and I am an Artist Ambassador again this year. WWM is a chance for all of us to connect, find inspiration and raise awareness of the importance of art and creativity for everyone - and in particular children, because as we all know, you never lose what you learn when you're young!

In recognition of this fact, 100% of the profits from the World Watercolor Month shop are donated to the International Child Art Foundation every year. Here are our limited edition souvenir products for 2024:

Join the Challenge!

The main goal of WWM is to foster community and awareness of watercolor and its benefits, but there is (of course!) a daily challenge every year too. The official challenge prompts are created by Angela Fehr, but I find them too abstract and to be honest rather unappealing. So I've created an alternative prompt sheet again this year.

You'll find this prompt sheet available for download on Patreon in the Daily Challenges Collection, on the YouTube members community tab, and in the Files section of the Diane Antone Studio Members Facebook group.

To join the challenge all you need to do is post your work using the hashtags #worldwatercolormonth2024 and / or #worldwatercolormonth, and if you're using the Diane Antone Studio prompt sheet then please use #worldwatercolormonthDAS too.

Are you a Connoisseur?

A special welcome to you, and some helpful info!

We've had a number of new people join us on Patreon and YouTube as "Connoisseur" supporters recently, which is wonderful, and we'd both like to extend a special welcome to each of you.

We created the Connoisseur supporter tier as a way of offering regular one-to-one guidance and support on your painting journey. The perks include a quarterly 'critique' of a piece of your work, as well as an original painting in the mail once a year.

How to request your 'critique'

This tier is designed to be tailor-made to your needs, which means that you decide when and how you'd like to receive your painting critique. It doesn't have to be every three months on the dot. It can be 'in person' via Zoom, by email, or a combination of the two. I recommend choosing a current (or at least recent) painting, and thinking about what you'd like to achieve as specifically as possible. Then simply send me an email at studio@dianeantone.com to get the ball rolling.

How to request your original painting

You need to have been a supporter at the Connoisseur tier for six months before receiving your first original, but other than that this perk is also tailor-made for you. So you can choose when you'd like the painting to be sent, and it can be different every year. Just email me at studio@dianeantone.com, and remember to think a month ahead if it's going to be a gift. (Delivery is usually pretty quick, but now and then one takes a few weeks to arrive at its destination.)

Thinking about joining us as a Connoisseur?

Unlike the other tiers I have to limit the number of people able to join at this level, and there are now only a few more places left. If you're interested, you can find out more by following these links to Patreon or YouTube:

ps. Details about the Connoisseur tier are not visible on Patreon on most devices until you click the ">" symbol next to the Inspiration tier panel.

This Week on YouTube

We have two weeks to cover this time, since we didn't have time to send a newsletter last week (the ceiling blinds are to blame for that!). There's lots of variation, exploration and inspiration here, especially in this one which went up yesterday:

Sonnet LXV

Since brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea,
But sad mortality o'er-sways their power,
How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea,
Whose action is no stronger than a flower?
O, how shall summer's honey breath hold out,
Against the wreckful siege of battering days,
When rocks impregnable are not so stout,
Nor gates of steel so strong, but Time decays?
O fearful meditation! where, alack,
Shall Time's best jewel from Time's chest lie hid?
Or what strong hand can hold his swift foot back?
Or who his spoil of beauty can forbid?
O, none, unless this miracle have might,
That in black ink my love may still shine bright.
